Design of Provably Good Low-Density Parity Check Codes

چکیده
We design sequences of low-density parity check codes that provably perform at rates extremely close to the Shannon capacity. The codes are built from highly irregular bipartite graphs with carefully chosen degree patterns on both sides. Our theoretical analysis of the codes is based on 1]. Additionally, based on the assumption that the underlying communication channel is symmetric, we prove that the probability densities at the message nodes of the graph satisfy a certain symmetry. This enables us to derive a succinct description of the density evolution for the case of a belief propagation decoder. Furthermore, we prove a stability condition which implies an upper bound on the fraction of errors that a belief propagation decoder can correct when applied to a code induced from a bipartite graph with a given degree distribution. Our codes are found by optimizing the degree structure of the underlying graphs. We develop several strategies to perform this optimization. We also present some simulation results for the codes found which show that the performance of the codes is very close to the asymptotic theoretical bounds.

Design and Implementation of Low Density Parity Check Codes
This article explains the design and implementation of both regular and irregular LDPC codes as carried out by me at the Institute of Communications Engineering, Technical University of Munich. The design of a good irregular LDPC code needs a pair of distributions to be specified. This article discusses a randomized construction which attempts to form a parity check matrix whose row and coloumn...
متن کاملLow-Density Parity-Check Code with Fast Decoding Speed
Low-Density Parity-Check (LDPC) codes received much attention recently due to their capacity-approaching performance. The iterative message-passing algorithm is a widely adopted decoding algorithm for LDPC codes [7]. An important design issue for LDPC codes is designing codes with fast decoding speed while maintaining capacityapproaching performance. In another words, it is desirable that the c...
متن کاملLow-Density Parity-Check Codes for the Gilbert-Elliott Channel
In this paper, we review recent developments concerning the application of lowdensity parity-check (LDPC) codes to the Gilbert-Elliott (GE) channel. Firstly, we discuss the analysis of LDPC estimation-decoding in these channels using density evolution. We show that the required conditions of density evolution are satisfied in the GE channel, and that analysis demonstrates that large potential g...
متن کاملProduct Accumulate Codes on Fading Channels
Product accumulate codes are a special case of differentially coded low density parity check (LDPC) codes. This work analyzes the noncoherent performance of PA codes and general differentially-coded LDPC codes on flat Rayleigh fading channels using extrinsic information transfer charts, and proposes a convergence-constraint method to design good LDPC ensembles matched to differential coding.
متن کاملA class of efficient-encoding generalized low-density parity-check codes
In this paper, we investigate an efficient encoding approach for generalized low-density (GLD) parity check codes, a generalization of Gallager’s low-density parity check (LDPC) codes. We propose a systematic approach to construct approximate upper triangular GLD parity check matrix which defines a class of efficientencoding GLD codes. It’s shown that such GLD codes have equally good performanc...
